it's sad when it's over

This episode, guys.
I started off pretty skeptical because last week's episode happened, but, you guys.
First of all, while everyone was like "GAIMAN ADDSLHUAELHUAE" I was kind of over here like "well, pff, he's just a guy," but you were all right. From the first lines of dialogue it was just so...crisp and right. Natural interactions, really believable stream-of-consciousness almost. The way they spoke, it was like their actual thoughts were kind of filtering through to what was said. Bad sentence. Anyway, the writing was very solid.
Second, who played the TARDIS, she is amazing. Seriously the only sad thing about this is I kind of want her for the next companion now and it can never be.
Third, oh my GOD, FINALLY we got some proper Doctor speeches. I mean, when he found the boxes, and when he talked about hope, and when he spoke to the TARDIS about being alive, guys, my heart. Where has that Doctor been, this season?
Fourth, some people are apparently complaining that this episode negates Bad Wolf, but like, you guys know what a big Rose stan I am and I honestly didn't think that at all. Rose looked into the heart of the TARDIS, but that resulted in her absorbing the time vortex, not that TARDIS' actual soul, which is a much smaller entity. Bad Wolf was the whole of time and space; woman!TARDIS was just the one TARDIS, the blue box, personified. The TARDIS calling Eleven "her Doctor" is not meant to step on the toes of Rose saying "I want you safe, my Doctor." That wasn't the TARDIS saying that; it was Rose. Or, it was the Bad Wolf, who is Rose, not some random other entity, but that's a whole other issue of head canon I guess. Anyway, I just didn't have an issue with it at all. I feel like you must really be looking for Rose-bashing to see it that way. Or to be in social media circles with Rose-bashers, in which case, why, people, why.
Fifth, AMY'S DELIGHT DA;IDA;IAE;JAE;AE MY SHIPPER HEART
Sixth, okay is it just me or was this week's Rory "death" arc about a thousand times more intense and gutting than any of the times he's "actually died?" Just. The whole time with Amy and Rory in the TARDIS my heart was aching. I kind of just loved every single thing about this episode.
Seventh, Leah and Rachel and I were talking about this, but remember how Gaiman first wrote this episode for s5, when Rory was meant to be dead/not existed? So then he had to rewrite the episode, with Rory in. Can you even imagine this episode without Rory? Especially Amy's parts in the TARDIS, but even some of the funniest bits. Rory is the beeeeeest.
EIGHTH I JUST WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN AND THEN ANOTHER TIME RIGHT NOW but I can't I have to get up early =( =( =(
ugh, guys, just. I've wanted this episode for so long. It was so good. It was so Doctor Who. This is my show. I want it to stay.

Date: 2011-05-15 04:31 am (UTC)BASICALLY. Kat told me about all these sudden OMG I KNEW IT revelations going around that she was seeing all over her dash about Bad Wolf actually being the TARDIS using Rose's body, and I literally had no choice but to say some things.

Date: 2011-05-15 04:59 am (UTC)I probably wouldn't object...but anyway. We got 9/10 TARDIS too which was just a little bit of added extra epic that made me all kinds of happy.
Rory can never leave. That is a fact.
Emo!Doctor is sort of my favorite so the fact we got some really solid, beautiful emotion out of him was glorious. Loved it. It's good to see Matt get the chance to show those emotions in the Doctor.
RE: BAD WOLF/ROSE.
PREACH.
One big ITA to everything you said. :D

Date: 2011-05-16 02:55 pm (UTC)never mind that neither of them were actually written by the MoffYEAH IT WAS NICE TO SEE MATT HAVE A GO AT EMO!DOCTOR. Though I saw someone on tumblr being all "mrah mrah Matt's subtlety is so much better than stupid David and his stupid yelling" and I was like INSULT DAVID ON MY DASH AGAIN I WILL END YOU ... somanyfeelings

Date: 2011-05-16 06:09 pm (UTC)LOL I keep seeing stuff like this too and getting so tetchy. STOP TRYING TO CANCEL OUT MY AFFECTION FOR ELEVEN/AMY/WHOEVER BY MAKING ME FEEL DEFENSIVE. It is not helping your case. It just makes me want to write odes to Ten/Rose/Martha/RTD.

Date: 2011-05-16 08:18 pm (UTC)Me post-ep: "Wow, that was a good ep!"
*goes online to Tumblr or LJ*
(Some random hater) "So-and-so was wayyy better than So-and-So in the RTD Era!"
And I change to:
"TEN HAD THE BEST EMOTIONAL SCENES OF ALL TIME AND YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS OF THE EMO RTD WROTE FOR HIM."
It's best if I just try to stay away so my enjoyment isn't ruined. LOL.

Date: 2011-05-17 01:14 pm (UTC)the same principle applies to companions and... just about everything. Tell me why it's your favourite, sure! Just don't tell me why it's better than my favourite, or you will get nowhere.

Date: 2011-05-15 06:27 am (UTC)I think it's up to interpretation what combination of Rose + TARDIS = Bad Wolf, but even if you believe that Bad Wolf was mostly the TARDIS speaking through Rose, I don't see how anything that happened in this episode changes or tarnishes anything that happened back then...
okay is it just me or was this week's Rory "death" arc about a thousand times more intense and gutting than any of the times he's "actually died?" LOL it was the opposite for me. Coming on the heels of a discussion last week about how Rory is always dying, I just sort of laughed and went, "Oh, there he goes again." I couldn't really take Amy's grief seriously either... I wanted to, but this is the fourth time we've seen it (and the previous time was just last week). But I definitely don't see how those scenes could have been done without Rory... Amy running around the TARDIS alone would have had less of an impact.
Best episode this season, y/y?

Date: 2011-05-16 02:58 pm (UTC)Yeah, it kind of was undermined by the trillion times that came before, but I just think that's so unfair because this time it was just better. Because it played on Amy's fears and regrets as an actual character, instead of as a girl who was losing her guy. I just basically wish the Pirates episode had never happened, because even removing that would have let this one mean so much more.
DEFINITELY the best episode of the season. I'm trying not to preemptively be sad for what's to come. hahaha.

Date: 2011-05-15 06:41 am (UTC)What @ the whole Bad Wolf wank. I haven't seen any of that, nor thought aout it much. I don't think Bad Wolf was the TARDIS personified, she was a weird Rose/TARDIS hybrid, and "the time vortex" =/= "the TARDIS' soul" or whatever. Also, Rose is not the first or last person to say "my Doctor". River said it two episodes ago, no one has accused her of not actually speaking on her own behalf.
Suranne Jones was wonderful, she gave me a Helena Bonham-Carter vibe and since I love Helena Bonham-Carter this is more than welcome. She and Matt Smith had good chemistry together and the banter between the two of them was wonderful. I was less interested in the plot with Amy and Rory running around the TARDIS, but it was still a solid B plot. And I loved the scenes at the end.
ELEVEN HAD EMOTIONS, GUYS. HE WAS SAD ABOUT STUFF. AND IT WAS AWESOME. And Matt Smith can act, so give him good material, plz & ty.
