Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] beingfacetious! Most entries (fandom-related, non-personal ranting, etc.) are public as of late 2009, when I stopped being a freak about "privacy on the internet" because, I mean, lol right? Buuuut most things that are more about my life and less about the life of a certain 900-year-old alien will still be locked, so if you're interested in that there's a fairly comprehensive list of stuff I like behind the cut, and a bit more information in my user info. Feel free to comment and friend away if you like; I'd (probably) love to meet you!

A super long time ago [livejournal.com profile] zombres  did this on her journal, and I shocked everyone by forgetting about it for a few weeks or a month or so. But now, a few weeks or a month or so later, here are my answers to the five questions I got!

2. Am I the last person to know that Katniss has been cast?

...as this chick?
Katniss isn't a blonde, guys. Not that she necessarily will be, but...side-eyed.

Day 22 – A Who-Related Fan-Site
Uh, livejournal is my Who-related fan site. Favorite would probably be [livejournal.com profile] doctor_rose_fix  which is actually my home page. That's not embarrassing! For real! Also I get most of my screen caps from Sonic Biro so I guess that counts as a fan site!

Day 23 – A Who-Related YouTube Video

This is actually quite seriously my favorite youtube video of all time. That's over Alex Reads Twilight, even. And I freaking love Alex Reads Twilight.

Also, youtube's new(?) embed codes are spiffy. Well done, youtube, on not sucking!

days to come )

Last night tragedy struck in my household: my Harry Potter books are missing. Okay, only the first three are missing, and they're probably buried under one of the piles of Stuff around my room. But they also might be on someone else's bookshelf, because I am so kind and might have loaned them to one of my stupid friends who hadn't read the series! They could be GONE FOREVER. Which, I mean, I could buy new ones I guess, but a)I refuse to own those books in paperback, which means b)it would be freaking expensive, and c)I want them NOW because I'm packing to move on Friday and I want to reread them during the fall semester. ANGST.

Also I want to take this time to say thank you to marlenanargle who made professor_spork read Feeling Sorry For Celia, etc., who then recommended them to me, for which I am so grateful. They have quickly become some of my absolute favorite YA books. Through the first two, anyway. How many more are there? I'll have to get them. Soon. They are so sweet and honest and gripping, and I love them so much. So I appreciate both of you liking them and by association (kind of) letting me also like them! Love.

I have questions/requests for you people.

1. Does anyone own the s2 soundtrack, and are you feeling generous?... PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME COPY ALL THE FILES FROM YOUTUBE VIDEOS.

2. I'm pre-ordering a few copies of Mockingjay and I need to spend more to get free shipping. So, if anyone has it/has seen it: Is it worth it to get the Journal of Impossible Things? Also it comes with the Master's ring but that's kind of whatever for me. I can't decide if I'd flip through the journal once or twice and giggle like a pitiful fangirl, but then wonder why I spent money on it. Ha. (I'm also considering this ahahaha) (ETA: I'm leaning way more towards the screwdriver at this point.)

3. It's not possible to JUST buy extra userpics with a Plus account on ElJay, is it? I don't want a paid account...just more icons. WHY MUST EVERYTHING BE DIFFICULT. Not that I would pay money for 100x100 images, anyway, because that would be silly...

Meme time!

Day 07 - Your Favorite Piece of Music
With download links! (from the 2008 Proms)
1. Rose's Theme
My giiiiiirl. This song is simple, but completely beautiful. You can hear her in it; her hope, her willingness to love, her compassion.

2. Doomsday
Yeah, at least a couple tears every time I hear it. But you guys, it is incredible music.

3. This is Gallifrey
Intense, bold, a little bit arrogant. Perfectly Time-Lord-y. Plus I just think it's a joy to listen to.

I really do think Murray Gold is an incredible composer, and this list would probably be a lot harder to narrow down if I had more of the soundtracks. But I don't, so there you go!

So I'm, um, working on a project, and I was wondering if anyone knows Amy's aunt's name? I felt like she said it in The Eleventh Hour but all a google search turned up was a few theories on how Amy Pond=River Song, and Amy Pond's aunt=the duck pond, and other equally lirl-y things. (Note that if you subscribe to one of the aforementioned theories, no offense is meant. Well. Maybe some offense.)

In the meantime here's one of the top fives!

the one I thought wouldn't take as long! I was wrong! )

That took a long time! I need to get back to my project! Help me out friends!
beingfacetious: (Hamlet: DT reading)
Well let's get this out of the way.

I saw Wicked on Saturday. Variations on the theme 'OMG' behind the cut. )

I just finished this book The Last Summer of You and Me, and it was all right. It was the same author as the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books, which I guiltily admit to having liked quite a lot. The Last Summer was basically a "more grownup" version with fewer characters to keep track of. It was pretty predictable and the story was nothing very new, but it was nicely written and it made me happy, and it didn't take much suspension of disbelief for me to believe in the characters as real people with real lives.

That's opposed to The Time Traveler's Wife, which was much less predictable and a more original story, but which I hated completely. It was boring, not compelling in the least, and completely unsatisfying at every turn in the storyline. Last Summer was only an average beach romance, but the author took care to let me fall in love along with the characters, and even knowing from page one that they would end up together I got upset with them when things got in their way. Wife kept me guessing and had higher stakes and was alllll about how "dizzyingly romantic" their story supposedly was, only I never cared. Not even a little bit.

So what do you think, flist? Would you rather read a unique story that's interesting by its nature, or a fairly stereotypical one that has nothing new way to say but has a better way to say it?
beingfacetious: (Doctor Who: both grin goof)
Hey ElJay!
Give me recommendations for summer reading!
I'd really like to read a lot this summer and first on my list is finishing The Writer's Tale (stupid exams get in the way of everything that's right and good), but after that I'm fairly directionless. So I'd love to know if any of you have any recommendations! So give me a favorite book, a second favorite book, or a book you saw one time and thought the cover looked cool! Realistic young adult is my favorite right now, but I'll look into pretty much anything, unless it's about vampires or has a title similar to "Taming the Rogue Lover."
Please please please please give me suggestions. I'll love you for it!

Jasa came over this morning to celebrate her birthday a few days late and, because she's literally the coolest friend in the entire universe, the Awesome Birthday Activity she chose was to watch New Earth. :D! I mean, it's where we happened to be in the Epic Introduction of Jasa to the Best Show Ever, so I guess the real awesome is that she chose Who for her birthday activity, and not that it was New Earth. But seriously, it made me so excited to rewatch this series. I'm so in love with it. Her comment was something like, "that was one of my favorite episodes so far. It was so funny and precious!" Which yes, the whole David-and-Billie-acting-possessed-by-Cassandra thing is probably one of my picks for funniest Who things ever. But the point here is that Jasa never ever says things like that about any two people in anything. Period. So that combined with how today I accidentally stumbled on some forum or something full of people who hate Rose WHYYYYYIDON'TUNDERSTAND has had me thinking today about how different the Doctor's and Rose's relationship is than so many others on TV right now, or in any media. There's something so special about them and their love - I don't know, it's so pure and friendly and genuine and consuming - and it's just so beautiful to watch their relationship evolve. I love this ship and I love this era of this show.
