beingfacetious: (Doctor Who: Ten/Rose TIP what if doesn't)

I've been meaning to compile that list for a pretty long time. And now I have! Hurray!

And while I'm in a fic-y mood, here's a meme I stole from [livejournal.com profile] professor_spork .

Favorite Story:
I'm going to pick two: The Calm Before and Good Enough. I love The Calm Before because I really enjoyed writing the way I think Ten must have dealt internally with the inevitability of the "storm" he references in "Fear Her," and the way Rose dealt with him dealing with it. I also had a great time coming up with the paragraphs about their adventures. Good Enough I love because there's so little we know about Amelia Pond's childhood, especially where Rory is concerned, and I just really loved playing with their characters as kids.

Most Fun Story: And Make Your Wish Come True. It's just a bit of silliness about TenII trying to surprise Rose with an Alice-in-Wonderland birthday party, only he basically gets everything wrong. I just think it's cute and very light. Possibly my only story completely untouched by angst!

Hardest To Write: So Quite a New Thing. Basically this was hardest because it's more...PG-13 than any fic I'd written 'til that point. I think since then, as well. I don't know, I never have a problem with ~this kind of material~ in my original fic, but with TenII and Rose I struggled with a balance between too risque and too lamely vanilla. So I've mostly stayed away from worrying about it since.

Easiest To Write: Proper Firsts. I saw the picture in the TTU prompts, and I just happened to be at the beach that week, and I knew exactly what I wanted to write, and it all came out in one sitting. Reeeeally nice feeling.

Biggest surprise: Of Buttons and Bazoolium. My first ever fic! I really had no idea what to expect when I got the idea to start writing this - I think mostly I wanted to impress [livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior  because I had a crush on her fic. But instead of being something I kind of look back on in shame, it remains one of my favorites. Good Enough was also a surprise, for a similar reason. It was my first Amy/Rory fic and it turned out much better than I would have expected for my first attempt at them to be.

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: Since this was my first year writing fic, I don't know that I can really claim to have had a theme for the year? But I think degrees of vulnerability is something I tend to focus on a lot, in everything I write; how much do we share with each other or hide from each other in different kinds of relationships, how much of it is on purpose, that kind of thing. I don't know if I'd say this fic I'd say was most about those themes, but The Only Cure For Grief touches on a lot of Rose's different relationships (Jackie, Mickey, Ten, alt!Pete) and I'm really pretty proud of it, so.

What's next for 2011: Hopefully more fic! It's been a long time since I wrote Doctor/Rose, and I really miss it. I've got some ideas floating around my brain and I'm hoping I'll find more time for fic'ing in the spring than I did this past semester. Definitely more original writing as I get into upper level fiction classes for my major, some of which I might end up sharing here.
