Why have I gone so long without doing an update on my series five opinions? I've no idea. Here that all is, then, for anyone interested.

Victory of the Daleks

Erm, it's been a really long time since I watched this, but we'll see what I can do? I loved that there was a Churchill episode. Serious England win, there. Between Churchill and Stonehenge this should be the best series ever, right?...no. Amy kicked butt as usual in this episode. Also this might have been the first episode in which I really believed Matty as the Doctor! That was exciting for me. From the Dalek rage to the jammy dodger, it was everything I'd been waiting for Matty's Doctor to be. Just lovely. And I had initially expected to really be bothered by a second Blitz episode (once you go blonde-in-a-Union-Jack you never go back) but it ended up not being that big a deal. The Blitz went on for a fairly long time, after all. And, as I've said, Churchill! Ooh, I also was a big fan of what's-his-name, the Dalek creation with human memories and emotions. Maybe a tiny bit corny where was RTD's writing? but a really nice, very Who concept, executed fairly well I thought.

The things I liked were pretty much the same as everyone else's things: the way-too-obvious sparkly crack, the plastic-y new Daleks, the honestly-a-bit-much Star Wars battle sequence. I think I give it a 7/10.

The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone

I always love a good stone angels episode! Scary as crap and all that good stuff! Add the intensity of Amy's troubles and, ooh, this was so chilling in the best way. Flesh and Stone almost makes it to being far and away my favorite episode of this series so far. Almost. MOFFAT.

Really though, the thing that surprised me the most (pleasantly, at least) about this two-parter was River Song. Guys, I don't hate her. What is that about? I mean, okay, I don't love her either. And I'm pretty well convinced that she's not, after all, the Doctor's wife. As Amy pointed out, it probably isn't as simple as that. And whatever their ultimate relationship is, it doesn't seem to be all that loving. Certainly not in the way that the Doctor's and Rose's relationship is. Maybe that's me trying to justify it away, but eh. It works for me so shut up. Anyway, she was funny in this, and clearly served as a more human counterpart for the Doctor when he needed that ("of course you're scared, you're dying, now shut up?" Really, Eleven?). So. That fear was alleviated at least for now. Also best line of the episode goes to her: "But that's just a fairy tale."  "Oh, Doctor. Aren't we all?"

Well, Matty had some pretty hysterical Doctor lines in this one, as well. I thought he did really well with these episodes, actually. Especially in delivering the kind of quiet rage I love so much in the Doctor's character, like when angel Bob (hang on, got to say, Bob is his sacred name? LOLWUT) admitted the countdown was just to scare Amy (that was brilliantly done, as well). Well done, Matty. I keep wondering if you might not have it in you and you keep proving me wrong.

I'm appropriately frightened of the time erasing energy, or whatever it is. I also think I'm in the camp of people who think the Doctor who runs off after River is not the same Doctor who "comes back" to ask Amy if she remembers what he said when she was 7. I don't really get what's going on there, and it could obviously have been some kind of consistency mistake, but...also maybe not! I don't know. I'm not so into trying to figure this series out. I feel like it might not make much sense when I get to the end, anyway. May as well just enjoy it as it happens! Ha.

Okay, the last scene...I mean, what is there to say? I had no idea it would happen. I was completely blindsided by this intense Amy Pond hate all of a sudden and that was really pretty unpleasant. It was so awkward and out of character and just wrong, and it had Moffat written all over it, which isn't always a bad thing (again, angels! Scaryness! Whooo!) but in this case it definitely, definitely was. Ugh. I don't even know. So together I give the eps about a 8-8.5/10. I really did like them, honestly, so much. But I was bothered by that so much, and also there were some things that never really got explained ("but that's not how the angels kill" - right, so what's gone wrong?... hello?) that keep it from bonus points.

But hey, Amy/Rory date next week! I'm excited for that. I like Rory. I think.

In other news, I've been off the mountain much of this week for new!school orientation and bumming around on the beach, and oh that was all just lovely. Transfer orientation is a bit ridiculous - I've been in college for two years so most of the information is really useless and the meetings are boring - but that campus is so nice and it was so warm and sunny all week, and guys I'm going to love it there. And registering for classes was, just, such a dream. In fact, here's a screenshot of my fall schedule:

That's two writing classes (fiction and creative non), two lit (European pre-1900 bleh and Science Fiction WHOOOOOO) and intro to geology (affectionately known here at App as Rocks For Jocks; should be just what this hapless creative writing major needs). Nothing before 11 AM and nothing after 3 PM except on lab days. Man, I love college.

In other-other-news, Kyle cooked me dinner last night, a week before my birthday, just for no reason except to have a date! He's such a sweetheart, literally. Not to mention the dinner was flipping fantastic: some kind of alfredo-y noodles with sausage and chicken. Who knew he was such a good cook? Not me. Bad thing to reveal so early; now I'll never bother to learn to cook, myself. :-p (not that after-two-and-a-half-years is early, I guess.)

That's about it for now, I guess. Oh, 3.94 this past semester; the professional writing teacher who hated me ruined my shot at a 4.0. Figures. But summer's here and life is good. What's new with you people?
